# How to Store Crystals (Stop Scratches, Fading and Damage) **By Cristian Maxim** ยท 2026-06-08 Most crystal damage does not happen while you are wearing or using a stone. It happens in a drawer: pieces rubbing together, a sunny windowsill slowly bleaching the colour, or a soft stone left somewhere damp. Storing crystals well takes five minutes and keeps them looking the way they did the day they arrived. ## How to store crystals: the short version Keep softer stones wrapped and separate so harder ones do not scratch them, keep colour sensitive stones out of direct sunlight, and keep water sensitive stones somewhere dry. A velvet or organza pouch per stone stops scratching and is easy to label. Ideal for tumbled stones and small pieces. 2. **A lined box with compartments.** A jewellery or display box with padded dividers keeps a collection organised and protected.
