Cat eye crystals — also known as chatoyant stones — display a moving band of reflected light across the surface, resembling the slit pupil of a cat's eye. This optical effect is caused by parallel fibrous inclusions within the stone that reflect light in a concentrated line. The effect is most visible in polished cabochon forms.
