About this stone

Selenite. A crystalline form of gypsum (calcium sulfate). The silky white 'satin spar' variety shows fine parallel striations and a soft, pearly glow. It is very soft (Mohs 2) and water-sensitive.

Care

Selenite is soft and water-sensitive - never wash it. Dust with a dry cloth only, keep it dry and away from humidity, and handle gently as it can chip or flake.
